Introduction and Specifications:
Our HTC One S review starts with an introduction and discussion about key specifications. HTC One S has been released along side the pricier HTC One X. It carries a price tag of $667 . Its body has been made with a material specially treated at 10,000 volts which gives it a ceramic look. It is reported to be tough but it is not as tough as Gorilla Glass. It comes with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display at a good resolution of 540 x 960. It is a PenTile screen whose grainy output will be visible once it is put side by side a Super AMOLED Plus screen present in its pricier brother , the HTC One X.
Camera :
Our HTC One S review now focuses on Camera. Initial tests have suggested that it is perhaps the Android phone with the best camera. It has an 8MP autofocus rear camera with ability to capture 1080P video as well. The camera comes with an LED flash and a very high powered f/2.0 lens. The camera performs perfectly well with perfect color saturation , balance and exposure. The camera performs good even in low light. Video capture is also very satisfying with beautiful color balance and exposure. Camera is very responsive and easy to operate. The phone has an internal memory of 16GB and it weighs 4.22 ounces. It has the dimensions of 5.15 x 2.56 x 0.3 inches.
Performance:
With a quadrant score of 5,053 , the 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor coupled with 1GB of memory performed flawlessly. Browser will work flawlessly and smoothly without any stutter and tiling. Apps loaded instantly and games also went on smoothly. The quadrant score and performance were quite ahead of competing Galaxy Note.
Battery Life:
The next item in our HTC One S review is battery performance. The phone comes with a 1,650mAh middle level battery. During tests , the battery lasted almost nine hours of constant video playback. This is almost identical to iPhone 4S. Normal standard use will see the battery through the day.
Call Quality and Network speed:
Call quality was flawless both at the receiving end and the calling end. The phone managed the download speed of 2.5Mbps and upload speed of 1.5Mbps on HSPA+ and 1Mbps up and down speeds on HSPA network. However the phone managed the download speed of 4.5Mbps and upload speed of 1.1Mpbs on At&T ‘s HSPA+ network.
Software:
HTC One S comes with latest Android 4.0 with tweaking by HTC which the users have come to expect .
Pros:
- Excellent performance
- Stylish look
- Latest Android OS with HTC Sense
- Powerful and capable camera
- Nice battery performance
Cons:
- Screen is not the latest and already better screens are available
Recommendation:
Our HTC One S review concludes that while this phone is ahead of its rivals in performance and look , it is behind them due to a lacking screen which is Super AMOLED and not AMOLED plus.
