If you look at the world through eyes of Facebook, this is how it will look like.
Paul Butler , an intern at Facebook wanted to explore deep into facebook relationships. He thought of creating of a visualization of facebook connections all over the world. Where are friends located? How are geographic boundaries affecting Facebook relationships and which areas have the most concentrated friendships and facebook connections.
Butler had a data of 10 million sample friendships , correlated them with cities and then with the help of latitude and longitude of each city , mapped the data. This was probably not a tough task. The real test was to give meaning to this mapped data of millions of friendships spanning different continents and boundaries.
Butler in his facebook note has described that how tough it was and how he came out with this fascinating idea.
A cursory look reveals what you already expect to be true. Most concentrated friendships can be seen in United States. Africa has thinnest facebook friendships. Russia and Antarctica almost have no existence on this Facebook visualization.
