The new ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz is a Windows 8 laptop. This is a simple old school laptop with a non touch display.
Hardware
ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz has a metal lid and full metal chassis just like the older version. The metal makes it look like classy and a high end machine. It weighs 4 pounds and it is 0.99 inches think. You will find the Ethernet port, power jack, two 3.0 USB ports and a HDMI port on the left side. On the right side you will find yet another 3.0 USB port, a micro SD card slot, a mini VGA port and a small connection slot for the external subwoofer that comes with ASUS Zen Book Prime UX51Vz. You will also find a mini VGA to VGA dongle and a USB to micro USB converter in the box.
ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz has an island style keyboard. The keys are properly spaced and easy to find by feel. The palm rest is quite large, which adds to a better typing experience. The touch pad is quite good. It handles Windows 8 gestures quite well but sometimes single finger tracking gives a slow response and you might have to apply extra pressure to it.
ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz has a 15.6 inches ISP non touch display with 1080 pixel resolutions. It has very good viewing angles and the image does not wash out even at an extremely off angle. The speakers on ASUS Zen Book Prime UX51Vz come with Bang and Olufsen ICE Power Audio Technology. Add the subwoofer to the mix and you get really good and loud sound output.
ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz is powered by quad core 2.1 GHz Core i7 CPU with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SDD by San Disk. It takes about 12 seconds to fully boot up Windows 8. It also comes packed with NVIDIA GT 650 M with 2 GB of memory and intergraded Intel HD Graphic 4000.
The ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz has a non removable battery. ASUS says that the battery will run for five and a half hours. With nonstop video play back while having Wi-Fi enabled you will get five hours and 20 minutes of battery life.
Software
ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz runs on Windows 8. Just like any other Windows 8 laptop, you will find the Zen Book Prime UX51Vz loaded with bloat ware. This includes Microsoft branded utilities like Fresh Paint app; Sky Drive, a 60 days trail edition of Microsoft Office and Skype. You will also find that ASUS has also installed some of their own apps like Cyber Link Power 2 Go, ASUA calculator and measurement conversion utility. There is also an AUSA Tutor which helps you master the new interface of Windows 8.
Conclusion
To sum it all up, the new ASUS ZenBook Prime UX51Vz has high end performance and a beautiful display with great viewing angles. Sadly it is a bit too over price and lacks a touch screen.
