The new Acer Iconia W700 is a Windows 8 tablet with an additional docked keyboard.
Hardware
Acer Iconia W700 is build of out aluminum and has a solid feel. It is 0.47 inches thick and weighs 2.09 pounds. Around the tablet you will find a full sized 3.0 USB port, a micro HDMI port, volume rocker, a headphones jack, screen orientation lock, the power button and the dual speakers. The top edge of the device has the air intake vents for cooling the processor.
The Acer Iconia W700 comes with a docking cradle that makes the tablet look bizarre. You can use this cradle to prop the Acer Iconia W700 in landscape mode or portrait mode for easy usage. With the dock you get an extra 3.0 USB port.
The kickstand for the dock is removable and it can be inserted in two different ways to support the tablet is portrait and landscape mode. The kickstand has a illustrate instruction image on it but it is quite hard to set it.
The Bluetooth keyboard of Acer Iconia W700 similar to the dock keyboard of W510, it has the same white plastic keys and the same gray frame. The keys are of good size and well spaced, which gives a nice typing experience.
Acer Iconia W700 has 11 inches ISP display with 1080p resolution with a Gorilla Glass coating. The colors look crisp and well balanced. The viewing angles are quite good but sadly you can’t adjust the angle because of the dock.
Acer Iconia W700 is powered by a Core i5 3317U CPU with 4 GB RAM, 126 GB SSD and an integrated Intel HD 4000 GPU. It takes 12 seconds to fully boot up. It has fast performance but sometimes lags on heavy graphic programs and games.
The battery life of Acer Iconia W700 is quite good compared to other Windows 8 tablets. With nonstop video play back while having Wi-Fi enabled, you will get about 7 hours and 20 minutes of battery life.
Software and Camera
The Acer Iconia W700 runs on Windows 8 that comes with a lot of bloat ware. The software you will find here includes Netflix, Kindle Reader, Amazon.com, iCook Book, 7digital music streaming service, Hulu Plus, eBay, Ever Note, Skitch, Stumble Upon, Cha Cha, Spotify, Skype, Tune In internet radio service, news Xpresso, Acer Crystal Eye webcam software and McAfee internet suite trial edition.
You will also find a few games on board like Zeptolab, Shark Dash and The Treasure of Montezuma 3. You also get Acer Cloud with unlimited storage, that lets you use Android apps and iOS to remote access your contents. There a also an app called Acer Explorer that help you get to know all the other preinstalled apps on Acer Iconia W700.
The 5 megapixel camera on Acer Iconia W700 is quite fast. The colors are pleasing and quite balanced but sometimes the background of your photo is a bit washed out. Sadly the camera app does not have HDR mode.
Conclusion
To sum it all up, the new Acer Iconia W700 is a well build tablet with fast performance and a good long lasting battery but it’s quite thick and a bit heavy. Plus you would have to carry a lot of extra equipment which this tablets, if you want to use it as a laptop.
